It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have been successfully scaled.

This is the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and once went nearly four years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, targeted by the peak baggers, are all that remain for a side that has achieved everything.

The fact it required up to Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, regaining their record for the largest in the women's 50-over format, is, in truth, a tribute to the bowling attack that have sported the yellow jersey over five decades.

It's difficult for their batsmen to maintain a record if not afforded the chance.

Finally, the result of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy getting a platform to deliver her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after Australia couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has seen it all through 15 successful years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her bow and seven world titles have come from 10 tries across formats.

The gritty keeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India momentarily interrupted the run of success.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the championship match and was named player of the tournament. She made sure her country would not come up short.

If this newest brilliant performance surpassed that earlier display is debatable.

Some will argue the case for the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was considerably tougher to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance followed six innings in India over the past few weeks in which she had failed to pass 30.

"For those following me in the nets, it was a challenging time because it seemed I've had no rhythm whatsoever," stated Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your competitive nature activate and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her key asset - and a priceless quality in replacing iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

A single came off Gaud's first delivery and from that point the batsman was in motion.

"The possibility to play and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment in that regard, kind of motivated me," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her fastest at a World Cup - and her ton in 84 as she flogged anything short, striking 21 boundaries and three maximums.

Once she was out her side needed 66 more at run per delivery - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the assurance to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, if we do, we are confident we can achieve it."

That comment will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this tournament need to hear.

In recent days a sense they will win from any position has only strengthened - this triumph coming after success over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they left last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - an encounter Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the inaugural occasion at a significant event.

So strong is her resolve, she later said she wished she had played with the discomfort.

But while she later admitted those injuries have postponed thoughts of retirement, this championship is anticipated as her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as skipper.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
